What to expect

What happens on a service day.

A clear picture of what your appointment looks like, from the moment you book to the moment you drive home. No surprises, no fine print.

Before you arrive

After you submit the reservation form, you’ll get an email confirmation (and a text message, if you opted into SMS). About 24 hours before your slot, we send a reminder. If something comes up, just reply to the text or email and we’ll reschedule.

If you can, please bring:

  • Your vehicle’s registration (or any document with VIN handy)
  • A description of what’s wrong (we asked at signup — just refresh us)
  • A spare hour or two; many fixes are quick, some need more time
  • Patience — we’re volunteers and the line moves at the speed of safety

The day, step by step

01

Check in

Drive into the Pendleton SDA Church parking lot at your scheduled time. Brendon (or another team lead) will meet you, confirm your name, and walk you through what we’re going to look at.

02

Hand-off

A volunteer technician takes a look. You’re welcome to stick around and watch (we usually have coffee and a chair), or run errands and come back. We’ll text you when we have an update.

03

Work

Most service-day jobs — oil changes, brake inspections, fluid top-offs, lights, wipers, battery checks — take 30 to 90 minutes. If the work is bigger than that, we’ll talk with you about next steps before doing anything.

04

Walk-through

When we’re done, the technician walks you through what was fixed, what we found, and anything that needs follow-up. If we noticed something we couldn’t address today, you’ll get a written note so you can decide what to do next.

05

Drive home

No invoice, no bill, no paperwork. A donation box is available if you’d like to contribute to keep the parts cabinet stocked — entirely optional and never asked for.

What we can — and can’t — do

The coop runs on volunteer time and donated parts. That puts some honest limits on what’s doable in a single service day. Here’s the rough shape:

Typical fixes we handle

  • Oil and filter changes
  • Brake inspections + pad/rotor service
  • Battery test and replacement
  • Fluid top-offs (coolant, washer, transmission)
  • Lights, fuses, wipers
  • Tire pressure + rotation
  • Air filter replacement
  • Basic diagnostic scans
  • Belt and hose checks

Beyond our scope

  • Major engine or transmission rebuilds
  • Body work and paint
  • Anything requiring a lift we don’t have
  • Repairs needing special-order parts on the same day
  • Inspections required for state certification
  • Work on vehicles we can’t safely jack up in a parking lot

When something falls outside our scope, we’ll be upfront about it and point you toward a trusted local shop.

Reserve a spot at the next service day and we’ll see you in the parking lot.
